Carbon offset projects:

Various renewable energy technologies, such as LED lighting, solar power and wind energy, are used by some departments of South Africa.  These departments identified five carbon offset projects for offsetting travelers' emissions, including Solar Cookers by Sunfire Solutions, Soil composting by Soil and More Reliance, Wind energy by Mainstream, LED energy efficient lighting retrofit program by Lemnis Lighting.

5. Waste reduction and recycling measures:

These measure include:
A two-bin waste separation and recycling system,
The sale of reusable souvenir cups, instead of single-use disposable souvenir cups,
The use of large dispensers for condiments and sugar instead of single-sachet servings

Environmental effects of wind power

First of all, wind energy do not generate air or water emissions,  and don't produce any hazardous waste. And wind power don't use natural resources such as coal, oil, or gas, won't cause environmental damage through resource extraction and transportation, don't require significant amounts of water during operation.

wind power

We can use more wind energy to prevent global warming.

But in fact wind power plants, like all other energy technologies, have some environmental impacts too.

Wind turbines don't consume any fuel or produce pollution during their normal operation, but still have hazards associated with their construction and operation. There are about 40 fatalities due to construction, operation, maintenance of wind turbines

eco-friendly energy, renewable energy

Solar energy: Solar panels can be used to convert the sunlight into electrical energy. Some achievements of solar energy have been achieved during these years.

solar eco energy

Wind energy: Wind turbines are connected to the generators, turn to generate electrical energy.

Hydropower: In the hydro-electric plant, water is stored in a reservoir. The water's potential power is converted to kinetic energy as it is piped into turbines that are connected to the generators.

Geothermal power: Geothermal energy harnesses the heat of our Earth to provide heating & electricity.

Biomass: Biomass is organic matter that can be converted to provide heat or electricity.

How will you and your family benefit from green energy?

Benefits with home green power (renewable energy, eco power) include:

eco green power home
Home security
Family protection
Increase in home value
Fixed cost for electricity
Clean (and sometimes quiet) power production
Free, renewable, green fuel
Reduction of emission of greenhouse gasses

Two common questions with wind energy: do wind turbines make noise or interfere with TV reception?

It's a cool way to make your home green by utilizing green energy, such as solar power, wind energy. It not only reduces our carbon footprint, but also reduce our energy bill.

Wind Energy for green home:

Wind Energy for green home

And in some areas, especially the remote areas with a few populations, it's ideal for us to install wind turbines for a green life. But wind energy for our green home is a new option. We will meet several problems when applying wind energy for our cool green building.

Two common questions are: do wind turbines make noise? Do wind turbines interfere with TV reception?

Less Energy Was Used in 2008 But More Renewable Energy in the US

The estimated U.S. energy use in 2008 equaled 99.2 quadrillion BTUs (“quads”), down from 101.5 quadrillion BTUs in 2007. (A BTU or British Thermal Unit is a unit of measurement for energy, and is equivalent to about 1.055 kilojoules).

Energy use in the industrial and transportation sectors declined by 1.17 and 0.9 quads respectively, while commercial and residential use slightly climbed. The drop in transportation and industrial use - which are both heavily dependent on petroleum - can be attributed to a spike in oil prices in summer 2008.

The Prospect of Wind Power in China

China consumes 10% of the world's total energy (power). 70 per cent of its primary energy consumption was coal. This is 40% higher than the world average.

The SO2 pollution caused by coal burning accounted for 70% to 80% of the total emission amount. Furthermore, the acid rain triggered by SO2 covers 1/3 of the entire area of China.

The quality of the environment in China is continuously deteriorating. By the end of 2020 the environmental and health losses of China caused by air pollution will reach 13% of the total GDP value. Therefore, the development of clean energy (green energy, alternative energy) has become the inevitable choice of China’s energy strategy. In fact the Chinese government has annouced a lot of policies about clean energy (green energy, alternative energy, renewable energy) and will plan to stimulate the development of clean energy. These include laws about green energy, subsidies for clean energy. For example, China Solar Subsidies -- “Golden Sun” subsidies , Carrot for solar power development offered by China government .

Wind power (wind energy), compared with conventional energy, is sustainable and is a form of clean energy (green power). Generating power from the wind does not require the burning of fossil fuels; hence, there is no risk of a fuel price rise.

Additionally, there are no environmental costs, such as carbon emissions.

Wind Power Potential Is Much Higher Than Current Estimates

According to a Harvard University study, global wind energy (wind power) potential is considerably higher than previous estimates by both wind industry groups and government agencies.

Using data from thousands of meteorological stations, the Harvard University team estimated that the world potential of wind power (wind energy) to be 40 times greater than total current power consumption. The interesting fact is that the previous study cited in the paper put that multiple at about 7 times.

Remote regions of Russia and Canada have the greatest theoretical potential. And also there are real gains to be made in high-emission nations, especially China, which has been rapidly constructing coal plants. “Large-scale development of wind power (wind energy) in China could allow for an 18-fold increase in electricity supply relative to consumption reported for 2005,” the Harvard University study shows.

China Solar Subsidies -- “Golden Sun” subsidies announced

We all know in 2008 the companies in the solar energy industry suffer the ache from the global financial crisis. Some companies closed a few production line of solar power. This is even worse in China. Nowadays China has played an important role in the field of solar energy. But the government of China has tried to stimulate the solar energy industry.

Chinese government started the “Golden Sun” subsidies  on Jul 21, 2009 to provide subsidies to solar-power projects, to boost the solar industry as a new growth point for the country’s economy.

Solar Water Heating with Solar Panel

The Ministry of Finance of China said on its website that it will offer 50 percent of investments for solar power projects of more than 500 megawatts (mw), and the transmission and distribution network over the next 2 - 3 years.

The solar power projects in the remote regions of China that are not connected to the electricity grid will receive subsidies of 70 percent of the investment.

Investment on Wind Energy in China

The development of wind energy in China has been put on the fast road. Many companies have focused on wind energy. Much money has been invested on the project of wind energy (wind power). Is it good news? is it a miracle for green energy (alternative energy)? or just an investment bubble on wind power?

The western areas of China, such as Gansu, Inner Mongolia is rich for the resource of wind energy. Meanwhile, these areas are poor. If these investment on wind energy in these poor areas is just to develop the green energy (renewable energy, alternative energy), not an investment bubble, surely, it will stimulate the development of these areas and will bring many benefits to the people living in those areas, such as solving the employment, making them richer (or exactly not so poor).
