The brunch of Network PRD for green energy

The idea to hold an event on green energy is something that we at Network PRD have been thinking about for a long time. China is by far the most rapidly urbanizing country in the history of the world. In the next 25 years, China's urban population will approach one billion, with all the accompanying skyscrapers, rail systems, manufacturing, airports, highways, shopping malls, and housing. A systematic and reasoned approached to sustainable, green development is essential to matching this urbanization with an equivalent rise in living standards.

solar gadgets: solar water heater

Solar water heaters, also called solar domestic hot water systems, is a cost-effective way to generate hot water for your home. Solar water heaters (solar domestic hot water systems) can be used in any climate, but different types of solar water heaters work best in different areas, and they use free sunshine. This will cut your bill for electricity.

Solar water heater includes two main parts: storage tanks and solar collectors. There are active solar water heating systems and passive solar water heating systems. The active ones have circulating pumps and controls, but the passive solar water heating systems don't. In fact there are many suppliers of solar water heaters in China. They perform differently mainly because of this.

The problem of green energy in China

According to the statistics, before October, 2009, there are about 50 companies, which are constructing , expanding, or preparing to construct the production line of multicrystalline (poly-crystalline) silicon in more than 20 provinces in China. The scale of the construction for multicrystalline (poly-crystalline) silicon is 50,000 tons to 100,000 tons.

 Grid Connected Solar energy

Regarding the wind power, there are about 70 manufacturers of wind energy now for just several years in Chna. But in fact the demands for wind power in the market of China, the capacity of the first 3 manufacturers are enough fully. That means other 67 manufacturers can't find enough demands of the market for their wind power.

But this is not the most serious problem these companies of renewable energy face.

This biggest problem is off-grid (stand-alone) for these clean energy (solar power, wind energy).

The Prospect of Wind Power in China

China consumes 10% of the world's total energy (power). 70 per cent of its primary energy consumption was coal. This is 40% higher than the world average.

The SO2 pollution caused by coal burning accounted for 70% to 80% of the total emission amount. Furthermore, the acid rain triggered by SO2 covers 1/3 of the entire area of China.

The quality of the environment in China is continuously deteriorating. By the end of 2020 the environmental and health losses of China caused by air pollution will reach 13% of the total GDP value. Therefore, the development of clean energy (green energy, alternative energy) has become the inevitable choice of China’s energy strategy. In fact the Chinese government has annouced a lot of policies about clean energy (green energy, alternative energy, renewable energy) and will plan to stimulate the development of clean energy. These include laws about green energy, subsidies for clean energy. For example, China Solar Subsidies -- “Golden Sun” subsidies , Carrot for solar power development offered by China government .

Wind power (wind energy), compared with conventional energy, is sustainable and is a form of clean energy (green power). Generating power from the wind does not require the burning of fossil fuels; hence, there is no risk of a fuel price rise.

Additionally, there are no environmental costs, such as carbon emissions.

China Solar Subsidies -- “Golden Sun” subsidies announced

We all know in 2008 the companies in the solar energy industry suffer the ache from the global financial crisis. Some companies closed a few production line of solar power. This is even worse in China. Nowadays China has played an important role in the field of solar energy. But the government of China has tried to stimulate the solar energy industry.

Chinese government started the “Golden Sun” subsidies  on Jul 21, 2009 to provide subsidies to solar-power projects, to boost the solar industry as a new growth point for the country’s economy.

Solar Water Heating with Solar Panel

The Ministry of Finance of China said on its website that it will offer 50 percent of investments for solar power projects of more than 500 megawatts (mw), and the transmission and distribution network over the next 2 - 3 years.

The solar power projects in the remote regions of China that are not connected to the electricity grid will receive subsidies of 70 percent of the investment.

Potential of Geothermal power in the world

We show potential of geothermal power in the world below.

If heat recovered by ground source heat pumps is included, the non-electric generating capacity of geothermal power (geothermal energy) is estimated at more than 100 GW (gigawatts of thermal power). This geothermal power is used commercially in over 70 countries.

During 2005, contracts of utilizing geothermal energy were placed for an additional 0.5 GW (gigawatts) of capacity in the United States, while there were also plants, which are under construction in 11 other countries.

Estimates of exploitable worldwide geothermal energy resources vary considerably. According to a study of 1999, it was thought that this might amount to between 65 and 138 GW of electrical generation capacity 'using enhanced technology'.

Investment on Wind Energy in China

The development of wind energy in China has been put on the fast road. Many companies have focused on wind energy. Much money has been invested on the project of wind energy (wind power). Is it good news? is it a miracle for green energy (alternative energy)? or just an investment bubble on wind power?

The western areas of China, such as Gansu, Inner Mongolia is rich for the resource of wind energy. Meanwhile, these areas are poor. If these investment on wind energy in these poor areas is just to develop the green energy (renewable energy, alternative energy), not an investment bubble, surely, it will stimulate the development of these areas and will bring many benefits to the people living in those areas, such as solving the employment, making them richer (or exactly not so poor).

Bioenergy Will Account for 4% of China's Renewable Energy (alternative energy) in 2020

As one kind of green energy (alternative energy, renewable energy) source, bioenergy will account for one percent of China's renewable energy (alternative energy) consumption by 2010, and four per cent by 2020, some officials predicted some year ago.

Bio-energy strategic development in rural China will help China meet the rising demands for energy (power).

In fact developing bio-energy in rural China will promote the development of the agriculture, rural areas and the farmers in China.

China has potential to be world’s biggest wind energy market by 2020

In our last article about wind power market in the US, the US wind energy market will see a surge in 2010. And some researches show that China could at least double its current wind energy (wind power) target for 2020.

A few years ago, Energy Bureau Director of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Xu Dingming said: “The development of renewable energy plays a crucial strategic role in the power supply of China. Wind energy growth in China is now on a fast track and globally we believe that wind power will become the primary alternative energy in the future.”

According to one report, China’s current wind energy (wind power) plan is to reach 20 Gigawatts (GW) by 2020. And we know that Germany, the world wind energy leader today, has just under 17GW. But the experts within the Chinese wind energy industry believe that 40 Gigawatts (GW) can be delivered in 2020; rising to ten times this by 2050. This scale of wind power would need 20,000 typical modern wind turbines by 2020. The investment generated could be worth USD 40 billion; putting China on track to become the world’s biggest wind energy market by 2020.

Let's put our eyes on China's total wind energy resources.

The capacity of wind potential in viable windy locations in China is large enough.

Anaerobic Digestion in Rural China: What is biogas?

Biogas is a combustible mixture of gases produced by micro-organisms when livestock manure and other biological wastes are allowed to ferment in the absence of air in closed containers.

The major constituents of biogas are methane (CH4, 60 percent or more by volume) and carbon dioxide (CO2, about 35 percent); but small amounts of water vapour, hydrogen sulphide (H2S), carbon monoxide (CO), and nitrogen (N2) are also present.
