Green Ideas in FIFA World Cup 2010 (2)

Carbon offset projects:

Various renewable energy technologies, such as LED lighting, solar power and wind energy, are used by some departments of South Africa.  These departments identified five carbon offset projects for offsetting travelers' emissions, including Solar Cookers by Sunfire Solutions, Soil composting by Soil and More Reliance, Wind energy by Mainstream, LED energy efficient lighting retrofit program by Lemnis Lighting.

5. Waste reduction and recycling measures:

These measure include:
A two-bin waste separation and recycling system,
The sale of reusable souvenir cups, instead of single-use disposable souvenir cups,
The use of large dispensers for condiments and sugar instead of single-sachet servings

Green Ideas in FIFA World Cup 2010

FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa is the greatest thing for the fans of soccer worldwide. This is also a green FIFA World Cup, full of eco-friendly ideas, green gadgets. In fact the carbon footprint of FIFA World Cup 2010 will go as low as possible.

Below are some of their eco-friendly endeavors of this event:

1. Green Stadiums: Moses Mabhida Stadium – Durban, Soccer City Stadium – Johannesburg, Green Point Stadium - Cape Town, Peter Mokaba Stadium - Polokwane, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium - Port Elizabeth

Moses Mabhida Stadium – Durban: The water-saving installation, rainwater collection, energy-efficient heating and cooling systems are applied in this Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Eco-friendly Vuvuzelas for 2010 South Africa

Although the 2010 FIFA World Cup is held in South Africa, but eco-friendly has also been an important part in this exciting world cup. Some people even say the Fifa World Cup in 2010 is a great platform for a new green idea.

South African vuvuzela trumpets are eco-friendly. That's the point we are interested in! The eco-friendly colourful vuvuzelas are accepted by more and more fans in South Africa.

Living eco-friendly, living green

1. Using more green energy (renewable power)

Our conventional coal-fired power stations produce much carbon dioxide every year, which is the most significant greenhouse gas. Also vast amounts of water are exhausted in the generation of electricity. We can reduce our "carbon footprint" while using more alternative green energy.

2. Be water smart

Water is precious in many countries and areas. More and more people from different countries and areas are suffering the lack of water today.

wind power for living green

With wind energy, we can save money over the long term. And unlike conventional fossil fuels, wind energy produce little or no carbon dioxide (CO2), which is a harmful gas and one of the biggest causes of climate change now.

Living green with wind energy sounds great! But we need to pay attention to some points. Wind speed will affect the amount of energy produced. But wind speed will increase with height.

The small wind turbines can be roof mounted for having a green home.
Below shows that wind turbine roof mounted:

But how do this small wind turbines work?

wind power: renewable energy

What's wind power? in brief, wind power includes the following formats: 1. using wind turbines to make electricity, 2. using wind mills for mechanical power, 3. using wind pumps for pumping water or drainage, 4. sails to propel ships...

:-) In fact, in the application of green energy, we often noticed this: wind energy and solar power are combined together for powering. For example, in some cities, solar street lights are mainly powered with solar energy, but still with small wind turbine. That means some solar street lights use wind power too.

The brunch of Network PRD for green energy

The idea to hold an event on green energy is something that we at Network PRD have been thinking about for a long time. China is by far the most rapidly urbanizing country in the history of the world. In the next 25 years, China's urban population will approach one billion, with all the accompanying skyscrapers, rail systems, manufacturing, airports, highways, shopping malls, and housing. A systematic and reasoned approached to sustainable, green development is essential to matching this urbanization with an equivalent rise in living standards.

Environmental effects of wind power

First of all, wind energy do not generate air or water emissions,  and don't produce any hazardous waste. And wind power don't use natural resources such as coal, oil, or gas, won't cause environmental damage through resource extraction and transportation, don't require significant amounts of water during operation.

We can use more wind energy to prevent global warming.

But in fact wind power plants, like all other energy technologies, have some environmental impacts too.

Wind turbines don't consume any fuel or produce pollution during their normal operation, but still have hazards associated with their construction and operation. There are about 40 fatalities due to construction, operation, maintenance of wind turbines

The market of eco-friendly cars

Nowadays GEM cars are available in a choice of six models in the market of electric cars. The picture of GEM cars looks a bit absurd? Maybe. But GEM Cars is our alternative of low speed neighborhood electric vehicles.

The picture of GEM cars:

Ferrari, the Italian car-maker experiments with going green too. In 2010 Ferrari unveiled the Ferrari 599, a 200mph electric hybrid vehicle that aims to cut pollution and fuel consumption while retaining this famous brand's breathtaking acceleration and performance.

Refering to Audi, it also launched the new strategy to build a range of eco-friendly cars.

We can forecast that electric, hybrid, hydrogen and all eco-friendly automobiles will be more and more popular. We will depend on less fuel energy in the future with our eco-friendly cars.

Your experience on living green, alternative energy, eco-friendly will bring us a better future, Share with us and the people worldwide!

The ecology of every corner of the earth is changing! We can use more and more green energy in our daily life, we can live an eco-friendly lifestyle, we can buy electric cars just to reduce gas emissions...

Your experience on going green, green energy, eco-friendly will be an example to others. Your insignificant behavior for living green, eco-friendly, solar power will bring more and more people to follow.

It's our chance to make change for green.
