wind power for living green

With wind energy, we can save money over the long term. And unlike conventional fossil fuels, wind energy produce little or no carbon dioxide (CO2), which is a harmful gas and one of the biggest causes of climate change now.

Living green with wind energy sounds great! But we need to pay attention to some points. Wind speed will affect the amount of energy produced. But wind speed will increase with height.

The small wind turbines can be roof mounted for having a green home.
Below shows that wind turbine roof mounted:

But how do this small wind turbines work?

wind power: renewable energy

What's wind power? in brief, wind power includes the following formats: 1. using wind turbines to make electricity, 2. using wind mills for mechanical power, 3. using wind pumps for pumping water or drainage, 4. sails to propel ships...

:-) In fact, in the application of green energy, we often noticed this: wind energy and solar power are combined together for powering. For example, in some cities, solar street lights are mainly powered with solar energy, but still with small wind turbine. That means some solar street lights use wind power too.

Environmental effects of wind power

First of all, wind energy do not generate air or water emissions,  and don't produce any hazardous waste. And wind power don't use natural resources such as coal, oil, or gas, won't cause environmental damage through resource extraction and transportation, don't require significant amounts of water during operation.

We can use more wind energy to prevent global warming.

But in fact wind power plants, like all other energy technologies, have some environmental impacts too.

Wind turbines don't consume any fuel or produce pollution during their normal operation, but still have hazards associated with their construction and operation. There are about 40 fatalities due to construction, operation, maintenance of wind turbines

wind-powered hand-held charger

But do you know wind-powered hand-held charger? :-) It's not so popular. And I think someone know this cool gadget firstly. HYmini offers such cool gadget. It's palm-sized, comes in three colors (comes in black, white, and green), and can charge your gadgets with just a stiff breeze. It sounds cool, don't you think so?

All this wind-powered charger takes is a breeze of between 9 and 30 mph to keep the battery charging. Meanwhile, the translucent wind turbine glows green while in use, and the cool gadget contains an LED night light.

Two common questions with wind energy: do wind turbines make noise or interfere with TV reception?

It's a cool way to make your home green by utilizing green energy, such as solar power, wind energy. It not only reduces our carbon footprint, but also reduce our energy bill.

And in some areas, especially the remote areas with a few populations, it's ideal for us to install wind turbines for a green life. But wind energy for our green home is a new option. We will meet several problems when applying wind energy for our cool green building.

Two common questions are: do wind turbines make noise? Do wind turbines interfere with TV reception?

Home Wind Turbine For Green Building

Home wind turbines are a relatively new option for families who are trying to invest in more green, renewable, alternative energy sources. Although it is common for people in sunny areas to look into getting solar panels, home wind turbines are a relatively new technology. There are now several different residential wind turbine options on the market. Depending on how much energy you want to get from wind power (wind energy), home wind turbines can range anywhere from about $500 to $22,000 for installation.

Home wind turbines can be used to reduce your carbon footprint, lower energy bills or even move entirely off the grid depending on what your goals are.

The most common use for the home wind turbine is just to reduce the amount of energy you use from more traditional (such as coal, nuclear, oil) power plants. Everybody can do this, however it will depend on where you live. For some areas it may be not cost effective with home wind turbines. Below we explain it to you.

The Prospect of Wind Power in China

China consumes 10% of the world's total energy (power). 70 per cent of its primary energy consumption was coal. This is 40% higher than the world average.

The SO2 pollution caused by coal burning accounted for 70% to 80% of the total emission amount. Furthermore, the acid rain triggered by SO2 covers 1/3 of the entire area of China.

The quality of the environment in China is continuously deteriorating. By the end of 2020 the environmental and health losses of China caused by air pollution will reach 13% of the total GDP value. Therefore, the development of clean energy (green energy, alternative energy) has become the inevitable choice of China’s energy strategy. In fact the Chinese government has annouced a lot of policies about clean energy (green energy, alternative energy, renewable energy) and will plan to stimulate the development of clean energy. These include laws about green energy, subsidies for clean energy. For example, China Solar Subsidies -- “Golden Sun” subsidies , Carrot for solar power development offered by China government .

Wind power (wind energy), compared with conventional energy, is sustainable and is a form of clean energy (green power). Generating power from the wind does not require the burning of fossil fuels; hence, there is no risk of a fuel price rise.

Additionally, there are no environmental costs, such as carbon emissions.

Wind Power Potential Is Much Higher Than Current Estimates

According to a Harvard University study, global wind energy (wind power) potential is considerably higher than previous estimates by both wind industry groups and government agencies.

Using data from thousands of meteorological stations, the Harvard University team estimated that the world potential of wind power (wind energy) to be 40 times greater than total current power consumption. The interesting fact is that the previous study cited in the paper put that multiple at about 7 times.

Remote regions of Russia and Canada have the greatest theoretical potential. And also there are real gains to be made in high-emission nations, especially China, which has been rapidly constructing coal plants. “Large-scale development of wind power (wind energy) in China could allow for an 18-fold increase in electricity supply relative to consumption reported for 2005,” the Harvard University study shows.

Investment on Wind Energy in China

The development of wind energy in China has been put on the fast road. Many companies have focused on wind energy. Much money has been invested on the project of wind energy (wind power). Is it good news? is it a miracle for green energy (alternative energy)? or just an investment bubble on wind power?

The western areas of China, such as Gansu, Inner Mongolia is rich for the resource of wind energy. Meanwhile, these areas are poor. If these investment on wind energy in these poor areas is just to develop the green energy (renewable energy, alternative energy), not an investment bubble, surely, it will stimulate the development of these areas and will bring many benefits to the people living in those areas, such as solving the employment, making them richer (or exactly not so poor).

China has potential to be world’s biggest wind energy market by 2020

In our last article about wind power market in the US, the US wind energy market will see a surge in 2010. And some researches show that China could at least double its current wind energy (wind power) target for 2020.

A few years ago, Energy Bureau Director of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Xu Dingming said: “The development of renewable energy plays a crucial strategic role in the power supply of China. Wind energy growth in China is now on a fast track and globally we believe that wind power will become the primary alternative energy in the future.”

According to one report, China’s current wind energy (wind power) plan is to reach 20 Gigawatts (GW) by 2020. And we know that Germany, the world wind energy leader today, has just under 17GW. But the experts within the Chinese wind energy industry believe that 40 Gigawatts (GW) can be delivered in 2020; rising to ten times this by 2050. This scale of wind power would need 20,000 typical modern wind turbines by 2020. The investment generated could be worth USD 40 billion; putting China on track to become the world’s biggest wind energy market by 2020.

Let's put our eyes on China's total wind energy resources.

The capacity of wind potential in viable windy locations in China is large enough.
