How wave power works

Ocean waves are caused by the wind as it blows across the sea. Wave power is a powerful source of energy.

Although wave energy is a clean energy, a green energy, the problem is that it's not easy to harness wave energy and convert it into electricity in large amounts.

There are several methods of getting energy from waves. One of them works like a swimming pool wave machine in reverse.

The two main categories of ac motors are synchronous and synchronous electric motors.

The induction ac motor is a common form of asynchronous motor and is basically an ac transformer with a rotating secondary.

The primary winding (stator) is connected to the power source and the shorted secondary (rotor) carries the induced secondary current. Torque is produced by the action of the rotor (secondary) currents on the air-gap flux.

The ac synchronous motor differs greatly in design and operational characteristics, and is considered a separate class of ac motor.
 

gasoline alternative: Ethanol Fuel

Ethanol fuel is a gasoline alternative. Ethanol fuel is manufactured from the conversion of carbon based feed stocks. such as sugar cane, sugar beets, switch grass, corn, and barley.

Ethanol fuel is an alternative from petroleum based fuels and it is said to be better for the environment. Ethanol fuel can be combined with gasoline at different percentages, or can be used in its pure form as E100. Of course not every vehicle can run on 100% ethanol, but most vehicles run on small percentages of ethanol blends which are common at most gas stations.

Ethanol has become more common because it is currently being used as an oxygenate additive for gasoline. Ethanol is a replacement for MTBE which was responsible for the contamination of soil and groundwater.

Ethanol fuel

Ethanol is commonly used as a fuel source additive and not as a fuel substitute.

Ethanol fuel is ethanol (Ethyl Alcohol or Grain Alcohol), the same type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages. It can be used as a fuel, mainly as a biofuel alternative to gasoline, and is widely used by flex-fuel light vehicles in Brazil, and as an oxygenate to gasoline in the US. In fact the recent surge in interest for alternative fuel sources is driving research to use Ethanol as a transportation fuel source.

Together, Brazil and USA were responsible for 89 percent of the world's ethanol fuel production in 2008. Because it is easy to manufacture and process and can be made from very common crops such as sugar cane and corn, in several countries ethanol fuel is increasingly being blended as gasohol or used as an oxygenate in gasoline. Bioethanol, unlike petroleum, is a renewable resource that can be produced from agricultural feedstocks.

Bioenergy: Biogas

Biogas is also produced in bogs and wetlands where large amounts of rotting vegetation may accumulate. And biogas consists mostly of a gas called methane, which is the same as "natural gas", commonly burned in our furnaces and barbecues. Biogas can be used instead of natural gas for heating and cooking.

In fact human beings have learned to duplicate this process in large tanks called biogas generators. To start the process of producing biogas, shredded plant materials and animal wastes are mixed with water in the biogas generator. Many kinds of naturally occurring bacteria arrive with the shredded plant material. The tank is then sealed so no air can get in. Within days, a special kind of bacteria in the tank will begin to produce biogas.

Bioenergy: Ethanol and Methanol

Ethanol and methanol are alcohols and are highly flammable. They can be made from plant sugars or plant fibres. Alcohol is produced by feeding plant materials into large heated tanks called digesters. Inside the tanks, chemicals or yeasts are added to change the plant materials into alcohol. The alcohol is extracted, purified, and prepared for use as a fuel.
